Street Special Assessment Policy

The Village of Little Chute Board of Trustees, staff and Village residents worked throughout the fall of 2014 to discuss and analyze the Village's Street Assessment policy. While the Village will continue to welcome public comment and inputs on the street assessment policy, a new policy was adopted in January of 2015. In an effort to provide an overview of actions taken to date, below is a timeline that occurred to review the policy:

  • On Wednesday, September 24, 2014, Village staff presented an overview of the street assessment policy.
  • After that presentation, the staff and board received comments from the public regarding the policy
  • On Wednesday, October 29, 2014, Village staff presented an overview of potential alternatives to the current assessment policy
  • In December of 2014, the Village Board discussed alternatives and provided direction to staff in order to craft a policy.
  • On January 21st, 2015 the Board met to discuss more details of the policy, providing final direction to staff with regards to an updated policy.
  • On January 28th, 2015 the Village Board of Trustees adopted the current street assessment policy.

Below are both presentations provided to the Board, along with other documents related to the special assessment policy. Please take time to review the documents and provide us with any questions you may have. If you would like to see additional information or other FAQs answered, please contact the Village Administrator.

The policy attempts to reduce long-term costs associated with street reconstruction. It does so by reducing the size of streets, reducing storm-water treatment costs and long-term maintenance costs. In addition, this policy reduces the total portion of street reconstruction costs being assessed to property owners.

This topic will continually be assessed by the Board and staff and take into account changing fiscal policy at the state level as that could have an impact on the process currently used to reconstruct streets, particularly how any assistance is provided to the Village in terms of transportation aids. Should you have any questions or comments, please contact the Village Administrator.
